Why general insurance advice matters
Most people buy home and business insurance from a comparison site. It's fast, it's cheap, and for straightforward situations it can work fine. But comparison sites don't ask the questions that matter for less-than-straightforward situations — non-standard construction, adjoining commercial premises, a home office, an annexe, business use of a vehicle, high-value contents, a portfolio of let properties, or a business with specific liability exposures.
The result is often a policy that looks good on price but doesn't respond when you actually claim. General insurance is one of those areas where the cheapest policy and the right policy are frequently not the same policy.
What we help clients cover
Home buildings and contents
Straightforward for a standard three-bed semi; considerably less so for a listed cottage, a barn conversion, a home with a business run from it, or a property in a flood zone. We help make sure the sums insured are right and that the questions are properly answered — the two most common reasons claims are underpaid or refused.
Landlord insurance
Standard home insurance doesn't cover a rented property. Landlord policies bundle buildings cover with landlord-specific extras — loss of rent, tenant default, malicious damage, and public liability for the landlord. For portfolio landlords we can arrange bulk policies covering multiple properties on a single schedule.
Business insurance
Public liability, employer's liability (a legal requirement for most businesses with staff), professional indemnity, business contents, business interruption, and cyber cover. What you actually need depends on your business — we help work through it and get quotes on a proper basis.
Specialist and non-standard cover
Holiday homes, empty properties awaiting sale, unoccupied for extended periods, high-net-worth clients with valuable jewellery or art, classic vehicles, self-build during construction — all sit outside standard comparison-site territory. Our broker panel handles these routinely.
The cheapest home insurance policy is worth exactly nothing if the answers you gave when buying it later turn out to have been wrong. Getting the questions asked and answered properly is often more important than the premium itself.
How this works in practice
General insurance isn't an area we specialise in directly — but we work with a trusted panel of general insurance brokers who do, and who search the whole market on our clients' behalf. We introduce you, we help frame what you need, and we can review the quote when it comes back. The broker handles the placement and any claims. Fees or commission arrangements are always disclosed upfront.
Reviewing what you already have
If you're an existing Metritá client, we're happy to review the general insurance policies you currently hold — not to move them for the sake of it, but to check the cover actually matches your circumstances today. It's surprising how often a policy taken out five years ago has quietly stopped being appropriate.
